The crowd at Perhsing Center satified their need for speed on
Friday night as the Pro/Elites took the floor to battle it out for
the gold. Stephen Carter, of Bethlehem, Penn., breaking his
own national record in the 500m Sprint three times on Thursday,
captured the overall gold for the Pro/Elite Men. Joey Mantia,
of Ocala, Fla., rolled away with the silver medal, and Fred Lacey,
of Bensalem, Penn., garned the bronze.
Julie Glass, of Federal Way, Wash., took 1st place in the 1000m,
500m Sprint and the 100m Time Trial, which led to an overall gold
medal for the Pro/Elite Ladies Division. Kimberlee Butler, of
Citrus Heights, Calif., took the Silver with Jilleanne Rookard, of
Cumming, Ga., taking the overall bronze.
Julie Glass and Joey Mantia will represent the United States at
the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Speed competition is scheduled for August 11 and August 12,
2003.
