Weekend Closes Out National Speed Skating Championships
Jordan Malone Dominates in Cornhusker Classic Inline Marathon.

Kellie Habeeb
July 21, 2003

The National Indoor Speed Skating Championships came to an end this past weekend as athletes took to the floor for their last chance to capture the gold.  Saturday, July 19, marked the close of the competition with relay action from some of the best athletes in the sport.

The speed was intense as Shaun Pattison and Jeremy Anderson, of Federal Way, Wash., took the gold for the Senior Men's 5000 Meters Relay. Kim Foster and Jill Rookard, of Cumming, Ga., led the way in the Senior Womens 3000 Meters Relay.  Erin DiJulio and Kimberly Derrick, of Byron Center, Mich., rolled in for a close second place spot.

The Cornhusker Classic Inline Marathon, on Sunday, July 20, marked the completion of the 2003 USARS National Indoor Speed Skating Championship festivities. Nearly 100 inline skaters from Pro/Elite levels to recreation and fitness levels took to the course to participate in the full-marathon (6-laps), half-marathon(3-laps) or scenic lap (1-lap).  Jordan Malone dominated the marathon, rolling in first place with a time of 1:06:20.813.   Patrick Creveling rolled in behind 0.543 seconds later, with a time of 1:06:21.356.  Jill Rookard followed the men's lead pack and was the first female to cross the finish line with a time of 1:12:00.309.
