2003 FIRS World Roller Speed Skating Championships
Team USA heading to Barquisimeto, Venezuela on November 1

USA Roller Sports (USARS) Junior and Senior Team USA will compete against the best in the international circuit at the 2003 Federation Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS) World Roller Speed Skating Championships from November 1 through November 9 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. 

The 2003 USARS Junior World Team includes: Brittany Bowe, William Bowen, Christopher Creveling, Jono Gorman, Joey Mantia, Mallory Pracale, Heather Richardson and Sara Sayasane.  Junior World Team Head Coach is Gypsy Tidwell.

The 2003 USARS Senior World Team includes: Kimi Butler, Stephen Carter, Theresa Cliff, Julie Glass, Matt Halbreich, Steven Krawulski, Jordan Malone, Jilleanne Rookard, Jessica Smith and Joshua Wood. Senior World Team Head Coach is Joe Cotter.

The World Championships will kick off on Saturday, November 1, with opening ceremonies commencing at 7:00 p.m.  The Track World Championships will be raced from November 2 through November 4 on the “Pedro Leon Torres track” inside Barquisimeto’s Sportive Village. The modern sports complex features a 200m track with a polished cement surface and seats approximately 5,000 spectators. 

The Road World Championships will take place November 6 through November 8 in the vicinity of the Patinodromo Pedro Leon Towers and will have a course length of 400m with an asphalt surface. The Marathon World Championship will be held on Sunday, November 9 and will consist of a circuit 2 km in length from Bracamonte Avenue to Vargas Avenue, located between the east and center parts of the city.

The town of Barquisimeto, known as the “Twilight City,” has a population of 750,000, and is approximately 40 minutes via airplane from Caracas.
