Battle on the Brandywine

Brandywine Brawlers 190, Key City 105

 

In their 2012 debut bout, The Brandywine Brawlers mercilessly defeated Key City Roller Derby of Frederick, Maryland 190 to 105. This historic battle took place on April 21, 2012 at the Caln skating Center in Downingtown, Pennsylvania the home of the Brawlers as well as the entire Brandywine Roller Girls league, Chester County Pennsylvania’s first and only all girl, skater owned flat track roller derby league.


The Brandywine Brawlers started strong and were unscored upon in the first six jams, as well as locking down the lead jammer position for the first eight jams. The Brawlers Cherry Poppins had two notable jams scoring 15 points and 19 points respectively. Key City’s Whippi Gone Stalking struck back with an impressive jam in the 10th by putting 9 points on the board for Key City only to be outscored by the Brawlers Crash Bansheekoot bringing the score to 59-18 at the end of the 10th. Key City continued to rally through the end of the half getting the lead jammer designation six more times but they were unable to catch up to the Brawlers leaving the score at 99 to 43 at the end of the first half.


Both teams came back from the half re-energized and re-focused with their eyes on the victory. Key City was able to narrow the lead by taking lead jammer six more times and consistent performances by Whippi Gone Stalking and Too Shae. Key City however was unable to close the gap thanks to impressive blocking by the Brawlers Whiskey Business who delivered lethal hits eventually wearing down Key City. The second half came to a strong end for the Brandywine Brawlers with Rapid Arrhythmia’s impressive18 point jam. The Brandywine Brawlers were able to seal the deal in their debut with the final score 190 to 105.
